The General Electric P42 locomotive is also known as the "Genesis" locomotive. The P42 is a modern 4200 horsepower passenger locomotive, which replaced the EMD F40PH locomotive, and is used across the United States and Canada. Established in 1977, VIA operates trains in all regions of Canada, serving nearly 4 million passengers each year. The Renaissance trains were introduced in 2002, and are used on most departures between Quebec City and Montreal, as well as on some others in the Quebec City-Windsor corridor.
